Achim Steiner, the chief of the United Nations Development Program, has stated that the agency might leave Afghanistan if the Taliban continues to prohibit women from working with the UN, a correspondent of "Daryo reports.
Although the Taliban has allowed women to work in certain occupations, the United Nations considers that Afghanistan requires more female employees. The Taliban's recent restriction on women working in UN departments has been described as "unacceptable and incomprehensible" by Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General.
However, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid has emphasized that the restriction on Afghan women's employment at the UN is a domestic issue that must be recognized by all parties.
Since coming to power in August 2021, the Taliban has enforced various unlawful constraints on women in Afghanistan, as well as on music, social networks, and video games.
