Uzbekistan’s trade with the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) reached $1.3bn in January 2023, 1.5 times more than in 2022. The EEU’s share in Uzbekistan’s foreign trade was 27%, media reports.
Uzbekistan was granted observer country status in December 2020. According to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Tashkent attaches great importance to developing close and multifaceted cooperation with the EEU. The head of state added that it is essential to use the potential of all unifying countries to eliminate trade barriers and create new markets.
EEU, at the end of last year, included Uzbekistan in the top twenty priority foreign partners of the Union.
At the end of last year, the bilateral trade surged by 22.7% to $15.7bn. Exports accounted for $5.6bn, while imports accounted for $10.1bn.
The leading trading partner of Uzbekistan last year was Russia, with a share of 18.6%, followed by Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, 9.2% and 2.5%, respectively.
