In Russia, it was proposed to declare an amnesty for labor migrants expelled from the country for minor offenses, "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" reports.
Artem Kiryanov, the deputy chairman of the economic policy committee of the State Duma, put forward this initiative. He said that this measure will help attract up to 200,000 foreign workers to the Russian labor market and noted that there is a high demand for migrants in the Russian construction industry.
Currently, it is proposed to extend amnesty to citizens who have committed minor offenses. Basically, this applies to migrants who did not issue documents on time or were delayed leaving the country. The deputy said that the punishment can be removed from foreigners who have not yet been deported. This initiative is currently being discussed by the community.
Earlier, NOSTROY President Anton Glushkov also said that amnesty was necessary for foreign builders deported from Russia.
"I think it's time to develop an amnesty mechanism in the case of foreign labor force deported from Russia. Because foreign forces are needed, they have working experience on the territory of Russia," - he said.
Glushkov noted that the number of migrants deported for violating the migration law is quite high. Amnesty for migrant workers is a very common mechanism in Russian practice and has been used several times. In the spring of 2017, Russia implemented the first amnesty for about 100,000 citizens of Tajikistan. In different years, citizens of Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan were also granted amnesty.
