Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are expected to switch to a new system for international road transport, the press office of the Ministry of Transport reports.
On March 10 in Ashgabat, Minister of Transport Ilhom Mahkamov met with Mammetkhan Chakiyev, Chairman of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan. Prospects for the development of cooperation in the field of transport were discussed at the meeting. In particular, the parties exchanged views on the expansion of transport-transit relations by eliminating some difficulties arising in the process of cargo transportation.
Also, in order to speed up the process of cargo transportation, the issues of unification and harmonization of tariffs and duties were considered.
The Uzbek side offered to switch to the E-Permit digital system, which provides for the electronic exchange of permit forms for international cargo transportation by road. Aspects related to the development of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran transport corridor were also discussed during the negotiations.
The participants of the meeting agreed to continue discussing the issues of the development of new transport and transit corridors, and also determined the next stages of improvement and expansion of bilateral cooperation.
Last year, it was reported that the procedure for issuing Turkmen visas to Uzbek drivers would be simplified.
