Full-scale construction work has begun along the entire Kyrgyz section of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev announced during a high-level meeting on June 30.

“Today is a wonderful day for the Kyrgyz Republic,” Torobaev said. “This railway is not only about infrastructure — it will improve quality of life, drive economic growth, and deepen regional ties.”
The meeting, attended by heads of state and municipal bodies and state-involved enterprises, focused on the coordination and implementation of the multibillion-dollar project. Torobaev instructed relevant agencies to swiftly address local challenges during construction and report directly to the Presidential Administration.

The Kyrgyz section of the railway spans over 304 kilometers and represents one of the most technically complex components of the transnational corridor. Approximately 40% of the track will pass through mountainous terrain requiring the construction of 27 tunnels and 41 bridges. The total cost of the project is estimated at $4.7bn, with completion targeted for 2030.
Originally launched on December 27, 2024, the railway project was inaugurated by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in a joint ceremony underscoring its significance for regional connectivity and trade.
The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway aims to provide a shorter and more efficient route for freight between China and Central Asia, ultimately connecting to Europe and the Middle East. Once completed, it is expected to become a critical artery in the emerging Eurasian transport network.
