Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has reportedly spent the past three days sleeping on an airplane as he travels for diplomatic meetings, according to Kamchybek Tashiev, head of the State Committee for National Security.

Speaking at a press briefing, Tashiev emphasized the president’s non-stop work ethic, citing a recent trip from Malaysia to Belarus as an example.
“Sadyr Japarov, as head of state, is establishing international relations. For the past three or four days, he has only been sleeping on the plane,” said Tashiev. “He flew from Malaysia, refueled at Manas Airport, and continued on to Minsk without even going home. He returned just last night.”
Tashiev dismissed claims that the president is enjoying a luxurious lifestyle, saying, “Some people think he is enjoying life. No.”
The security chief used Japarov’s schedule to highlight what he described as a lack of discipline among other government officials. He warned that those who take holidays or travel abroad on weekends will face consequences.
“Officials who go to the lake, the mountains, or abroad on Saturdays and Sundays will be held accountable and dismissed from their posts,” Tashiev stated.
This is not the first time Tashiev has taken a hardline stance on government officials taking time off. In summer 2023, he publicly banned ministers from vacationing in Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan’s most popular summer destination.
“Since you are a minister, work. I don’t want to see any minister lying on the beach in shorts and getting a tan. Rest at home. There will be no vacation,” he said at the time.
