Uzbekistan and Belarus are discussing the potential cancellation of permits for international freight forwarders, a move aimed at boosting trade turnover between the two countries, according to Dunyo news agency.

The issue was raised during a meeting between Uzbek Ambassador Rahmatulla Nazarov and Belarusian Minister of Transport and Communications Alexei Lyakhnovich. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the transport sector and exploring new opportunities for trade facilitation.
Minister Lyakhnovich highlighted that revoking permits for freight carriers from both countries could streamline cross-border transportation and enhance economic ties.
Additionally, the Belarusian side expressed readiness to host the next session of the Belarus-Uzbekistan Joint Commission on International Road Transport in Minsk, tentatively scheduled for March or April this year. Discussions also covered projects related to international transport corridors and the utilization of Uzbekistan’s Termez transport and logistics hub.
The two sides further explored Belarus’ experience in developing an efficient public transport system, airport runway design, and road sign implementation, which could be adapted in Uzbekistan.
Earlier, Belarus recently appointed Alexander Ogorodnikov as its new ambassador to Uzbekistan, signaling continued diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
In January 2025, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Belarus reached $50.7mn, up from $43.1mn in 2024 and $43.8mn in 2023. Exports totaled $11.3mn in the first month of 2025, rising from $7.9mn in the same period of 2024, while imports increased to $39.4mn from $35.2mn.
