The Ministry of Digital Development of Uzbekistan has proposed that China’s tech giant, Tencent, open an office in the country. This comes after Vice President of Tencent, Ma Bin, held discussions with the ministry's leadership, exploring opportunities for collaboration and market entry. The Ministry's press service reported on the details of the meeting.

During the talks, the Tencent delegation was introduced to Uzbekistan’s tax incentives for IT Park residents, initiatives to boost digital exports, and opportunities for foreign tech companies to enter the local market. The delegation was also briefed on the activities of Uzinfocom, the country’s single integrator.
Sherzod Shermatov, the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, emphasized the importance of creating high-income jobs for young people that align with the needs of the digital economy. The discussion also touched on digital education and professional development, areas where both sides expressed interest in deeper cooperation.
A proposal made during the meeting was the idea of opening a Tencent representative office in Uzbekistan, which would serve as a gateway to Central Asian markets. Plans were discussed to organize IT outsourcing and joint telecommunications projects, marking a significant step towards enhanced cooperation between the two nations.

Tencent representatives also presented various technological solutions, including smart city concepts, cloud services, big data analytics, and artificial intelligence offerings. In addition, discussions were held on collaboration in the gaming industry, fintech, and digital platform development.
This meeting follows an April session between the management of the Central Bank, Humo, and Uzcard with a delegation from Tencent Cloud International, a division of Tencent Holdings. During this earlier meeting, both parties explored the possibility of integrating Tencent's WeChat Pay with Uzbekistan’s local payment systems, including QR code payments.
Furthermore, Deputy Head of the Central Bank's Payment Systems Department, Miraziz Mirhayotov, recently announced the commencement of negotiations with WeChat and Alipay regarding the integration of these platforms with Uzbekistan’s national payment systems. This initiative is aimed at facilitating payments for foreign tourists in Uzbekistan and Uzbeks traveling to China, with future plans to enable seamless transactions using Uzcard and Humo cards.
