Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has urged Kyrgyz authorities to ease what he sees as undue pressure on Russian companies operating in the country.
During a meeting in Almaty with his Kyrgyz counterpart, Adylbek Kasymaliyev, Mishustin expressed concern over the treatment of Russian businesses by senior Kyrgyz officials. He emphasized that Russian companies are vital to Kyrgyzstan’s economy, providing jobs and contributing as some of the country's largest taxpayers.
Mishustin shared that the Russian Foreign Ministry had documented several cases where Russian firms faced unfair treatment and extortion. He added that a formal diplomatic note had been sent to Kyrgyz authorities to address these concerns.
“We urge the Kyrgyz leadership to stop the administrative pressure and ensure the protection of Russian investors' rights,” Mishustin said.
In response, Kasymaliyev acknowledged the issue and promised to address it. “We’ve discussed the protection of Russian companies' rights, and I will look into this matter when I return to Bishkek and provide a detailed update,” he assured.
Mishustin stressed that Russian businesses play a crucial role in the local economy, both as investors and significant contributors. He warned that continued pressure could damage bilateral economic ties.
Kasymaliyev pledged to uphold a fair business environment in Kyrgyzstan and assured that he would personally oversee the resolution of the issues raised by the Russian government.
