Uzbekistan imported 74,700 passenger cars, including electric vehicles, valued at $1.28bn in 2024, according to the Statistics Agency.
The Customs Committee reported a decline in car imports compared to 2023. The value of imports dropped by 33.2%, while the number of imported vehicles decreased by 7%.
China dominated Uzbekistan’s car imports, accounting for over 61,000 units, or 81.6% of all foreign cars imported. Notably, nearly all electric vehicles were sourced from China, with 22,100 electric cars imported in the first 11 months of 2024.
South Korea ranked second, supplying nearly 12,000 vehicles, followed by the United States (639 units), India (577), and Japan (168). Additionally, 374 vehicles were imported from other countries.
For the first time in Uzbekistan’s history, imports of electric and hybrid vehicles outpaced gasoline-powered cars in 2024. The share of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in total imports fell from 64.4% in 2023 to 44.2%. Meanwhile, electric vehicle imports rose to 32.3% (up from 20%), and hybrid vehicles accounted for 23.4% (up from 15.3%).
In 8M24, Uzbekistan imported 12,913 electric cars valued at $166.8mn, marking an increase of 2,371 vehicles compared to the previous month.
Earlier it was reported that Kyrgyzstan imported 101 tons of cars from Uzbekistan, valued at $1.98mn, which represents a decline from 2023 when 259 tons worth $5.69mn were imported.
