Central Asian youth convene in Tashkent for Model OSCE 2026 diplomacy programme

The Central Asian Model OSCE 2026 is underway in Tashkent from April 27 to May 1, bringing together 25 young participants from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan for a regional educational initiative focused on diplomacy and international cooperation.

The programme, organized by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), is delivered through a diplomatic simulation that replicates real-world international negotiations. Participants take on the roles of diplomats, respond to crisis scenarios, draft resolutions and represent national positions in a structured setting.
The initiative is led by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan in cooperation with OSCE Programme Offices in Astana, Bishkek and Dushanbe, and is hosted by Nordic International University.

“Model OSCE provides young people with hands-on experience in diplomacy and negotiation, while deepening their understanding of international organizations,” said Antti Karttunen, noting that the programme supports regional cooperation and youth engagement in addressing shared security challenges.

Over five days, participants explore the work of the OSCE, discuss current security issues, and examine the role of youth in decision-making processes. The agenda also includes discussions on the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250, which highlights the role of young people in peacebuilding and security efforts.

“For me, participating in Model OSCE is an opportunity to better understand how international decisions are made and how diplomatic dialogue is conducted,” said Nigora Ilolova, a participant from Tajikistan. She added that the experience helps develop public speaking, analytical and negotiation skills while fostering exchange with peers across the region.

The programme features interactive sessions, diplomatic debates and a full-scale simulation of the OSCE Permanent Council, where participants conduct multilateral negotiations on key agenda topics. It also places emphasis on gender equality, inclusive participation and the role of youth in peace and security.
The Central Asian Model OSCE 2026 aims to equip participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in diplomacy, supporting skills in negotiation, consensus-building and multilateral dialogue across Central Asia.
