Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has dismissed Prime Minister Akylbek Zhaparov, according to a statement released by the presidential administration on December 16. The statement explained that the dismissal was due to a transfer to another position, without specifying further details regarding his new role.
Akylbek Zhaparov, who has served as prime minister since 2021, was replaced temporarily by First Deputy Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev, who has been assigned the duties of acting prime minister. Kasymaliev, an experienced government official, will oversee the Cabinet of Ministers while also heading the presidential administration.
The decision to appoint Kasymaliev, a former Minister of Finance from 2015 to 2018, was made as part of a broader move to renew the leadership of the country’s administration. His candidacy has also been submitted to the Jogorku Kenesh (Supreme Council) for approval to take up the role of prime minister.

"The decision reflects a desire to give a new pace to the country’s rapid development and update the management of the state and socio-economic progress," Baisalov said.
Baisalov also reassured the public that Akylbek Zhaparov will continue to serve closely with the president as a key ally, contributing to the nation’s development.
Kyrgyzstan, a landlocked and mountainous Central Asian country, has faced political and economic challenges since gaining independence in 1991. The country’s economy is heavily reliant on remittances from migrant workers in Russia, which account for a significant portion of its GDP.
