The Directorate for Construction of Nuclear Power Plants under Uzbekistan's Atomic Energy Agency (Uzatom) has signed a memorandum of cooperation with China National Nuclear Corporation Overseas (CNOS), a subsidiary of CNNC. The agreement was announced by Uzatom’s press service.
The memorandum was signed during an international conference held on December 5 in Samarkand. In addition to this agreement, Uzatom and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) updated the Framework Country Program to strengthen their collaboration.
Uzatom also formalized partnerships with several other organizations. An agreement was signed with Assystem Engineering and Operation Services, a subsidiary of the French company Assystem. Memorandums of understanding were also established with the World Nuclear Association (WNA) and the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.
Furthermore, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Tashkent branch of MEPhI (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute) and the Research Institute for the Development of Digital Technologies and Artificial Intelligence.
In November, Uzatom and CNNC discussed the potential for adopting China’s expertise in building small nuclear power plants. They also explored opportunities to enhance uranium ore mining, processing, and the production of high-value nuclear fuel for use in power plants.
