Bukhara's governor announced plans to implement 106 projects next year, backed by $2bn in foreign investments, aiming to create 105,000 permanent jobs and generate $350mn in exports, according to the presidential press service.
At a critical meeting held on November 29, the president addressed key challenges facing the Bukhara region, including insufficient investment, unemployment, and poverty.
Governors, their deputies, and sector leaders were placed on an intensive six-month work schedule to tackle these issues. Specific measures include launching 70 pilot projects inspired by successful initiatives in Saykhunabad, Uychi, Zarbdar, and Gijduvan districts. These projects aim to generate profits for 150,000 residents and lift 40,000 people out of poverty.
To optimize the region's industrial potential, districts will specialize in specific industries. For example, Peshku and Shofirkon will focus on construction materials and textiles, while Kogon, Olot, and Jondor will develop food production. This approach is expected to attract $150mn in entrepreneurial projects, establish 411 small enterprises, and create 12,000 jobs.
The textile sector is set to expand significantly with four new factories planned in Vobkent, Karakol, Jondor, and Olot, valued at $320mn. These factories will double the production of knitwear and textiles, adding 5,000 jobs to the local economy.
Tourism remains a key driver of growth. The region aims to attract 2.2mn foreign tourists in 2025, with tourism exports projected to reach $600mn. Plans include constructing 69 new hotels and setting up 2,000 craft stalls and shops, further boosting employment and revenue.
Agricultural development also features prominently in the region’s plans. An additional 20,000 hectares of farmland will be developed, yielding 100,000 tons of crops and creating jobs for 2,000 people. Efforts are also underway to cultivate pistachios on over 2mn hectares of unused pastures, aligning with a broader strategy to optimize underutilized land.
Bukhara has undergone significant transformation in recent years, with over $4bn in investments driving growth in industries such as energy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and tourism. However, President Mirziyoyev noted that these achievements fall short of the region’s true potential.
Despite these plans, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the need for further efforts to fully unlock the region's potential. He instructed local authorities to revisit their proposals and submit a refined action plan for final approval.
