Sanoat Energetika Guruhi (Saneg), Uzbekistan’s largest privately-held oil and gas company, has announced plans to increase its associated petroleum gas (APG) recycling capacity to over five million cubic metres per month. The move aims to reduce environmental harm and maximize the utilization of natural resources.
Advancing APG Recycling
APG, a by-product of oil extraction, is often flared due to its low pressure and high impurity levels, resulting in significant economic losses and the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Saneg has been working to mitigate this issue by capturing and recycling APG.
Currently, Saneg captures around 3.5mn cubic metres of APG per month. By introducing advanced recycling technologies, the company plans to increase its capacity. This initiative will enable Saneg to process and integrate the recycled gas into its pipeline network, reducing flaring and improving resource efficiency.
Infrastructure Upgrades
Saneg has already installed 11 compressor units across its oil production sites in Uzbekistan. These units are designed to capture and recycle APG, minimizing waste. Additional compressor units will soon be deployed at the Sardob, Saezhar, Severny Urtabulak, and Okkul fields located in the Bukhara-Khiva and Kashkadarya regions.
This expansion is expected to help eliminate gas flaring at these sites, further aligning with the company’s sustainability goals.
Commitment to Sustainability
Saneg CEO Tulkin Yusupov emphasized the company’s dedication to sustainable development.
“As a company committed to the principles of sustainable development, Saneg will continue to invest in environmentally friendly technologies for the efficient extraction and use of natural resources,” he stated.
The company’s focus on APG recycling aligns with broader efforts to reduce Uzbekistan’s carbon footprint and transition towards more sustainable energy practices.
