In a significant milestone for Uzbekistan's electrical industry, the production volume of electrical products reached an impressive UZS 23.8 trillion (approximately $1.9 bn) in 2023, as reported by Namaz Tolipov, the head of the press service of Uzeltehsanoat, during a briefing at AIMC. The sector's remarkable achievements include substantial export figures, successful localization initiatives, and a surge in investments, marking a robust growth trajectory, Telegra.ph reported.
Export Achievements
Copper Processing and Localization
In pursuit of enhancing the local industry, over 85,000 tons of copper were processed in the past year for the production of electrical appliances. Local manufacturers, as part of the localization program, successfully produced devices valued at UZS 2.4 trillion (approximately $195 mn) and secured 25 international certificates for their products. This demonstrates Uzbekistan's commitment to developing a self-sufficient and competitive electrical manufacturing sector.
Investment Inflows and Project Launches
Future Growth Plans
Looking ahead, Uzbekistan has ambitious plans for the electrical industry in 2024. The goal is to increase the production of electrical appliances by 20% and boost exports by half, reaching $1.5 bn. To achieve this, the country plans to increase copper processing to 140,000 tons. Additionally, the "copper cluster" in the Akhangaran region will witness the launch of five projects worth $55 mn, contributing further to the industry's expansion.
Technological Advancements and Solar Panel Production
Uzbekistan is set to embrace technological advancements in the electrical sector with the establishment of a technology park in the Bukhara region dedicated to the production of household appliances. Furthermore, the commissioning of workshops for the production of solar photopanels in Qarshi and Nukus is expected by the end of the year. These facilities aim to annually produce panels of 250 and 200 MW, respectively, contributing to Uzbekistan's commitment to sustainable and renewable energy sources.
Earlier Daryo reported that President Mirziyoyev plans to invest $100 mn in government support to promote advanced technologies, innovations, and international standards in the electrical industry. This financial boost aims to propel the sector's development, keeping it at the forefront of technological advancements.
