The Hokim of Syrdarya region, Akmaljon Makhmudaliyev, welcomed the Senior Vice President of the Korea Uzbekistan Business Association (KUBA), Kim Chang-Keon, to discuss potential collaboration and investment opportunities, the National Information Agency of Uzbekistan reported.
The meeting primarily focused on the outcomes of the Syrdarya region's delegation visit to South Korea in December 2023. Both parties deliberated on the agreements made during the visit, emphasizing cooperation in mutually beneficial sectors, expediting ongoing investment projects, and attracting leading Korean companies to invest in the Syrdarya region.
Kim Chang-Keon expressed satisfaction with the open and constructive dialogue that has taken place between the two countries, stating that the high-level interactions have increased Korean business interest in investing in Uzbekistan. Notably, new investment projects have been outlined, including the joint construction of a four-star hotel and a kindergarten in Gulistan, the establishment of a branch of Sun Moon University specializing in information technology and a Korean language teaching center, as well as initiatives for cultivating and processing cherries and pomegranates in Gulistan district. Additionally, plans were unveiled for the launch of enterprises producing semi-finished products in Yangiyer and electronics in Mirzaabad district.
Officials and significant investors are scheduled to visit the Syrdarya region in February, marking a crucial step in solidifying the commitment to these prospective ventures.
The Regional Hokim expressed optimism about the future of collaboration, affirming that the necessary conditions for active cooperation would be established. This positive outlook suggests a strengthening partnership between the Syrdarya region and Korean businesses, with potential benefits for both parties.
Earlier Daryo reported that representatives from the education department of the city of Gyeongbuk, Republic of Korea, visited the Department of Preschool and School Education in Bukhara region, Uzbekistan. Discussions centered on teaching the Korean language in Bukhara schools, existing conditions for students, and the successful outcomes achieved through joint projects and competitions. The active participation of students and teachers in initiatives organized in partnership with Korea was highlighted as a positive outcome.
Furthermore, Tae-Chang NET, a Korean company, has unveiled plans to upgrade five hydroelectric power stations in Uzbekistan to enhance the country's hydroelectric power infrastructure. Representatives from Tae-Chang NET disclosed their intentions to replace the power units at five hydroelectric power plants, with a combined capacity of 30 MW, located in the Tashkent and Samarkand regions. This initiative aligns with Uzbekistan's efforts to modernize its energy sector and signals a fruitful collaboration between the two nations in the field of sustainable energy production.
