The European Union (EU) and Uzbekistan have signaled their readiness to adopt a strategic partnership roadmap to advance the sustainable use of critical raw materials between 2025 and 2026.

This announcement came during the 2024 European Economic Days, an event organized by the European-Uzbek Association for Economic Cooperation (EUROUZ) that drew over 300 participants, including key government officials and private sector leaders.
The proposed roadmap will focus on enhancing collaboration between the EU and Uzbekistan across five key areas. These include integrating production and sales chains, strengthening supply chain stability, mobilizing financing for joint projects, promoting sustainable and innovative raw materials sourcing, and improving workforce skills related to raw material processing.
This multifaceted approach aims to create a resilient framework for resource management, aligning with global goals for sustainable growth and responsible resource usage.

Earlier, in a video message, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, highlighted the strengthening ties between Uzbekistan and Europe. She reflected on Uzbekistan’s historical role as a central hub in global trade, where European traders once journeyed to cities like Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva for textiles, ceramics, and stories of its grandeur.
"Today, Uzbekistan wants to open up to the world once more," she said. “You aim to reclaim your central position not only within Asia but also in global trade routes and investment flows. And Europe wants to be your partner in this new chapter of Uzbekistan’s thousand-year history."
