The Minister of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan, Lieutenant General Polat Bobojonov, held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Internal Affairs of Italy, Matteo Piantedosi, in Italy, on a November 27, focusing on the implementation of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Internal Affairs, signed between the governments of Uzbekistan and Italy in Rome in June 2023.
The two ministers discussed various aspects of their cooperation, including combating terrorism, drug trafficking, and other forms of transnational crime. They also addressed issues related to public security, the creation of an interdepartmental coordination mechanism, and the exchange of experiences in law enforcement and the use of digital technologies.
The meeting was described as friendly and constructive, with both parties emphasizing the importance of expanding multifaceted cooperation in the internal affairs sector.
Key Areas of Cooperation Discussed
Combating Transnational Crimes: The ministers discussed enhancing cooperation in the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, and other forms of organized crime that cross national borders.
Public Security and Coordination: Both sides agreed on the need for establishing an interdepartmental coordination mechanism between their respective law enforcement agencies to improve communication and joint efforts on security issues.
Digital Technologies in Law Enforcement: The two countries explored opportunities to exchange knowledge on the application of digital technologies in policing and law enforcement.
Expansion of Cooperation: The parties also talked about expanding their cooperation in various other aspects of internal affairs, with a particular emphasis on long-term collaboration.
As part of the visit, the Uzbek delegation visited the Italian State Police and the National Police Academy to learn about Italy's law enforcement systems. The delegation observed the operational processes and training programs used by the Italian police, aiming to enhance the skills and capabilities of Uzbekistan’s own law enforcement agencies.
