A World Bank delegation, led by Anna Bjerde, Managing Director of Operations, and Antonella Bassani, Vice President for the Europe and Central Asia Region, visited the Roghun Hydropower Plant to assess the progress of its construction.

Accompanied by Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda, the delegation toured key areas of the plant, including the underground sections, transport tunnels, turbine system, and the installed equipment.
NBO Roghun reported that World Bank representatives provided a positive assessment of both the construction progress and the quality of the ongoing work.
Anna Bjerde signed the Roghun guestbook, highlighting that the project symbolizes "national determination, strength in development efforts, and a model of successful international collaboration."
She also reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting the completion of the hyrdroelectric station’s construction.
In 2024, the World Bank approved a $350mn International Development Association (IDA) grant to support the completion of the Rogun Hydropower Plant (HPP) in Tajikistan, with the total volume of the program reaching $650mn.

Having toured the power plant, the delegation headed to the Presidential palace to meet with President Emomali Rahman. The two sides discussed the current state and prospects for cooperation between Tajikistan and the World Bank.
During the conversation, issues related to other aspects of Tajikistan's socio-economic development, the resilience of its economy to modern risks and challenges, as well as attracting grant and concessional funds from development partners for the implementation of the country's priority projects were discussed.
The total cost of completing the Rogun HPP is estimated at $6.29bn, to be financed through project revenues, domestic resources, and development partners. In addition to the World Bank, other international organizations including the Asian Development Bank (ADB), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) are supporting the project, contributing to $2.97bn in grants and concessional funds.
