Export contracts worth $44 mn were finalized during a three-day visit of Afghan business representatives to Uzbekistan, the Uzbek Chamber of Commerce and Industry reports. These agreements cover a range of sectors including foodstuffs, construction materials, textiles, and other products.
In addition to the contracts, an agreement was reached to establish an Uzbek-Afghan business council. This new council will be comprised of 18 major companies from both nations, designed to support ongoing business collaboration and economic engagement.
The trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan as of early April 2024 amounted to $224.8 mn, showing an increase of 24.6% over the previous year. Afghanistan has emerged as Uzbekistan's ninth-largest trading partner. The detailed trade figures for the first quarter of 2024 indicate that Uzbekistan exported goods worth $219.9 mn to Afghanistan, while imports from Afghanistan were valued at $4.9 mn.
Earlier, Daryo reported that at the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan Business Forum in Tashkent on April 25, the Uzbek Chamber of Commerce and Industry reported that the trade volume between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan totalled $866.9 mn by the end of 2023. Uzbekistan ranked among Afghanistan’s top ten trade partners.
