Muhammadsobir Faizov, a citizen of Tajikistan, finds himself at the center of attention following accusations of involvement in the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack in the Moscow region. As he approaches his 20th birthday, his family, neighbors, and local community members speak out, presenting a different narrative from the allegations leveled against him.
Faizov, the youngest of five sons in his family, worked in Russia alongside his brothers and father. Contrary to initial perceptions, those who knew him describe him as not particularly religious but well-mannered, with a solid upbringing.
Prior to his arrest, Faizov worked as a hairdresser in Ivanovo, Russia, where he was highly regarded by his clients. However, on March 23, he was apprehended along with three other Tajiks suspected of involvement in the Crocus terrorist attack, which resulted in over 140 fatalities and numerous injuries. His arrest, characterized by reports of resistance leading to facial injuries, has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding it.
Relatives and neighbors vehemently refute the allegations against Faizov, expressing disbelief that he could orchestrate such a heinous act. His mother, Sayram Faizova, summoned for questioning by Tajikistan authorities, has since remained reticent, refusing to engage with journalists or allow access to her home.
In defense of Faizov, his brother Naimjon stated that they have cooperated fully within the bounds of the law and emphasized the need for patience as events unfold.
Faizov's journey to Russia was primarily motivated by economic aspirations, according to his family. Intent on supporting his family and furthering his education, he worked diligently, albeit expressing dissatisfaction with his earnings. Despite this, his commitment to family and education remained paramount.
Testimonies from neighbors and community members echo a sentiment of disbelief, describing Faizov as a respectful and helpful individual who never exhibited any signs of radicalization. The imam of the local mosque attests to the family's non-radical religious stance and their active involvement in the community.
Faizov's upbringing in an intellectual family, with both parents working in education, further complicates the notion of his involvement in extremist activities. School teachers recall him as a diligent student with aspirations for higher education, debunking the idea that he could have been swayed by extremist ideologies.
The Crocus terrorist attack, attributed to ISIS's Khorasan branch, has sparked a complex web of accusations and denials, with Russian authorities implicating Ukraine despite official denials.
