In a recent meeting between Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon, held with the participation of official delegations from both countries, discussions centered around deepening strategic partnership and alliance relations. The talks, as reported by the press service of the president, delved into various spheres including political, trade-economic, transport-communication, and cultural-humanitarian aspects.
“In recent years, as a result of active communication in the spirit of mutual trust and support, friendly relations between our countries have risen to an unprecedented level," President Mirziyoyev voiced.

The importance of enhancing dialogue across multiple fronts, including parliaments, governments, foreign policy agencies, ministries, and regions, was underscored to effectively implement the historic agreement on Union relations signed during the meeting.
In pursuit of strengthening economic ties, the presidents emphasized the need to develop cross-border trade mechanisms and trade infrastructure, with a target to increase trade volume to $2bn. They welcomed the agreements on joint projects in various sectors such as energy, electrical engineering, metallurgy, mining, textile, pharmaceuticals, and agro-industry, aiming at fostering deep industrial cooperation.
Water usage issues, a critical concern for both nations, were addressed, highlighting the importance of continued constructive dialogue. President Mirziyoyev emphasized maximizing the potential for interregional cooperation and the full implementation of agreements reached during the visit.
Transport and transit transportation were identified as strategic directions, with a focus on expanding mutually beneficial partnerships, creating favorable conditions for air and rail transport development, and increasing transit cargo volume.
Cultural and humanitarian exchange received renewed attention, reflecting the commitment to fostering people-to-people connections. The leaders also pledged support for socio-economic projects in Afghanistan to combat contemporary threats and dangers, reaffirming their readiness for mutual support within regional and international frameworks.
The meeting included reports from Deputy Prime Ministers and Ministers of Transport, Energy, and Agriculture, with instructions given to prepare a joint "road map" and establish mechanisms for the effective implementation of the agreements reached.
