The Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kyrgyzstan reported a concerning tally of 2,523 registered cases of domestic violence during the 2M24. Law enforcement authorities issued 2,247 temporary restraining orders against perpetrators of domestic violence. These orders were secured on behalf of 2,086 female victims, 112 male victims, and 49 minors.
Furthermore, 764 protocols were compiled under Article 70 (domestic violence) of the Code of Administrative Offenses, with 727 protocols forwarded to court for further action.
Courts took decisive measures, sentencing 204 individuals to community service and arresting 396 people under Article 71 (Failure to Comply with the Conditions of a Temporary Restraining Order) of the Code of Administrative Offenses.
Recognizing the urgent need to address the plight of victims, Kyrgyzstan operates 18 crisis centres dedicated to assisting women and girls affected by domestic violence. These centres play a crucial role in offering support and refuge to victims, assisting them in navigating through the aftermath of abusive situations.
The Ministry of Labour, Social Security, and Migration augmented funding for these crisis centres in 2024. The allocated resources have seen a significant increase, rising from KGS 7 mn to 12 mn ($78,273 to $134,183).
