Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are set to embark on a new phase of digital collaboration as they initiate the mutual exchange of electronic permit forms beginning April 15, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Transport reports. This strategic move aims to streamline road freight transportation processes between the two nations, fostering efficiency and enhancing cross-border logistics capabilities.
The announcement follows the commencement of the international forum "Digital Transport Corridors" in Samarkand, where Deputy Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Jasurbek Choriev, alongside representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan, convened to discuss advancements in digitalization within the transportation sector.
Pilot Project for Electronic Permit Forms
Sergazi Omash, Director of the Department of Digitalization and Public Services at the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan, elaborated on a pilot project facilitating the transition to electronic permit forms (E-permit) with Uzbekistan in road freight transportation. The signing of a memorandum of cooperation sets the stage for the commencement of mutual electronic exchange and issuance of electronic permit forms in a pilot mode starting April 15, 2024.
The initiative aligns with the Uzbekistani President's directive in January to simplify the visa regime for cargo carriers abroad, underscoring the government's commitment to addressing logistical challenges in the transportation sector. Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov received a directive to resolve lingering logistics issues, highlighting the importance of enhancing operational efficiencies.
Bilateral Cooperation in Digital Transition
In a bid to bolster bilateral ties, Kazakhstan proposed the establishment of an electronic exchange of permit forms (E-permit) with Uzbekistan in late February. Aigul Kuspan, Head of the Mazhilis Committee on International Affairs, Defense, and Security, emphasized the principle of collaboration over competition, emphasizing the complementary nature of the proposed digital initiatives.
Building on the groundwork laid in recent months, Kazakhstan announced plans to introduce electronic entry permits to Uzbekistan, with cargo carriers set to commence online application submissions from April onwards. This digital leap underscores the shared commitment of both nations to embrace technology-driven solutions to enhance cross-border trade and transportation.
