The project of constructing the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, estimated at $8 bn, is poised to commence following the completion of preparatory procedures by the three involved nations. Reports from 24.kg, citing Akylbek Japarov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, affirm that all necessary preparations have been finalized, with construction expected to kick off this year.
Japarov noted that the initial estimated cost of $8 bn serves as the foundation for the project. Kyrgyzstan, China, and Uzbekistan have collectively completed the preparatory stages, including the establishment of the technical and economic framework essential for the railway's development.
The tripartite cooperation agreement for the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan-China railway project was inked in Samarkand in September 2022. This agreement delineated the roadmap for the project, with a focus on formulating the technical and economic groundwork, which was anticipated to be accomplished in the first half of the subsequent year.
In December 2023, Chinese experts concluded fieldwork pertaining to the new railway line, marking a significant milestone in the project's progress. The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, a concept under discussion for over two decades, is anticipated to play a pivotal role in expanding trade and transportation routes from China through Uzbekistan to Europe and the Persian Gulf countries via the "Southern Corridor."
