Kajaki HPP of Afghanistan reaches 10% completion of second stage
The Ministry of Water and Energy in Afghanistan has reported significant advancements in the construction of the second phase of the Kajaki dam, situated in Helmand province. The ongoing project, encompassing critical components, has achieved approximately 10% completion in its second part, news agency Al Emarah English informed on March 30.
Upon the culmination of both the first and second parts of the second phase, the overall water storage capacity of the Kajaki dam will escalate from 1 bn cubic meters to an impressive 2.2 bn cubic meters. Additionally, the irrigation capacity is slated to expand, covering 276,000 hectares, while the power generation capacity will rise to 151 MW.
The Kajaki Dam, classified as an earth and rockfill embankment dam, is situated on the Helmand River within the Kajaki District of Helmand Province, Afghanistan, approximately 161 kilometers (100 miles) northwest of Kandahar. It houses a hydroelectric power station managed by the Ministry of Energy and Water, operating under the Helmand and Arghandab Valley Authority.
