The interim Afghan government has voiced concerns over reported instances of U.S. military drones allegedly violating Afghan airspace. These concerns were highlighted in various Afghan publications and informed by Anadolu on March 30.
Statements made by Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban, in an interview with Kabul-based TOLO news, report that, U.S. drones have been observed intruding into Afghan airspace and conducting patrols. The Taliban has strongly condemned these actions, labeling them as violations of Afghan sovereignty.
Mujahid stated that the aircraft in question are believed to belong to the United States, with some allegedly entering Afghanistan from neighboring airspace. The Taliban has urged all parties involved to recognize their responsibilities and cease such actions.
Repeated protests on this issue have reportedly been made by the Taliban, but U.S. officials have not responded to these concerns. Additionally, earlier reports from Afghan sources have indicated U.S. drone patrols in Kandahar and Nimroz provinces.
