Pakistan's Defense Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, has stirred debate with his assertion that neighboring Afghanistan serves as a source of terrorism for Pakistan. The statement follows a suicide attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province that resulted in the deaths of five Chinese citizens, as it was disclosed by Etilaatroz.
Asif emphasized the need for a reevaluation of border security measures, suggesting that the unique nature of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border may necessitate departures from conventional international norms. He indicated that Pakistan might reconsider its adherence to established border protocols if cooperation from Kabul remained insufficient.
The Defense Minister highlighted the importance of halting terrorist activities to foster improved relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He emphasized the significance of maintaining traditional neighborly ties, including facilitating travel through passports and visas.
While the Taliban refrained from directly addressing Asif's accusations, they have consistently denied allegations of providing sanctuary to terrorists. The group has reiterated its commitment to preventing Afghanistan from being used as a base for attacks against other nations.
In response, the Taliban criticized the Pakistani government's handling of internal security, rejecting attempts to shift blame onto Afghanistan. They urged Pakistan to address its internal security challenges more effectively.
Pakistan has long alleged that leaders and members of Pakistani militant groups, including the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), find refuge in Afghanistan, orchestrating attacks against Pakistan from across the border. Islamabad contends that despite its demands, the Taliban has failed to take action against these militants.
Earlier Daryo reported that, at around 03:00 local time, Pakistani military planes carried out an airstrike on Barmal city in Paktika province and Sepiri district in Khost, Afghanistan. The strike targeted the area of Lehman, suspected to be sheltering the "Pakistani Taliban." The incident led to the loss of lives of eight women and children who were living in a house in the Lehman vicinity.
