Uzbekistan's Prime Minister, Abdulla Aripov, signed a decree aimed at reducing the negative impact of vehicles on the environment, on March 29. The decree focuses on practical measures to address air pollution caused by vehicle emissions.
Additionally, the decree introduces a system for automatically assessing vehicles based on environmental standards. This system will facilitate the issuance of environmental stickers categorizing vehicles as "clean," "medium," or "harmful." The objective is to raise awareness among vehicle owners about the environmental impact of their vehicles and encourage the adoption of eco-friendly alternatives.
The decree also mandates the development of financing mechanisms grounded in modern approaches to mitigate pollution and protect atmospheric air quality.
Uzbekistan's Ministry of Environment had previously proposed exploring mechanisms to incentivize the adoption of electric vehicles. This proposal reflects the government's acknowledgment of the role electric vehicles can play in reducing emissions and promoting sustainable mobility solutions.
The initiative aligns with global trends towards sustainable transportation practices. Uzbekistan aims to learn from successful international models, such as the program in Seoul, South Korea, which incentivizes the purchase of environmentally friendly vehicles through subsidies.
