During the recent session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, lawmakers deliberated on the proposed amendments to several legislative documents in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The session aimed to address the escalating issue of heightened pollution in the natural environment due to the extensive expansion of construction, production, and urbanization.
Emphasizing the need for revised criteria to limit and suspend activities that adversely impact the environment, lawmakers discussed the draft law regarding amendments to certain legislative documents of Uzbekistan during its second reading. The proposed changes aim to regulate the activities of entities that exceed established pollution norms, preventing environmental contamination beyond acceptable levels.
Under the proposed amendments, legal documents will be adjusted to include provisions for restricting and temporarily suspending the operations of enterprises, organizations, structures, and other entities found to be causing environmental harm above specified limits, with the suspension lasting up to ten working days.
Lawmakers asserted that the adoption of this draft law would contribute to the ongoing efforts to enhance the country's ecological conditions, mitigate risks to public life and health, and reinforce the accountability of relevant state bodies in managing environmental concerns. Following discussions, the draft law was successfully adopted.
In a related matter, an earlier proposal by the Cabinet of Ministers regarding measures to reduce the negative impact of vehicles on atmospheric air was introduced for deliberation. The proposal advocates for a ban on the movement of air-polluting vehicles in Tashkent, Nukus, and regional centers.
