A former US representative in Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad stated that the US would no longer protect Taliban opponents and attack Afghanistan.
The official addressed Afghan refugee leaders overseas, suggesting that the period for such attacks has passed and that Taliban opponents should use amnesty to travel to Kabul and discuss the issue of inclusive government and Constitution with the Taliban.
Zalmay Khalilzad is an American diplomat and foreign policy expert. He served as U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation from 2018 to 2021. Khalilzad was also appointed by President George W. Bush as United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Ambassador to Afghanistan, and Ambassador to Iraq.
