Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will pay a working visit to Turkmenistan’s coastal city of Turkmenbashi (Türkmenbaşy) on August 4–5 at the invitation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedow, the presidential press service reported.
During the visit, Mirziyoyev is said to take part in the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), to be held in the Awaza National Tourist Zone on the Caspian Sea. The high-level event is expected to bring together UN Secretary-General António Guterres, heads of state and government, as well as representatives from international and regional organizations.
The conference agenda focuses on key challenges facing landlocked nations, including improving transport connectivity, simplifying cross-border trade procedures, driving economic transformation, enhancing climate resilience, and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Delegates are set to adopt the Awaza political declaration and an action program to support these objectives.
In addition to the UN-led forum, the Uzbek leader is also scheduled to participate in a regional event dedicated to preparations for the upcoming Seventh Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia. A series of bilateral meetings is also planned.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev previously visited Turkmenistan in October 2024, where he delivered a speech at the plenary session of the international forum "The Interconnection of Times and Civilizations – the Basis of Peace and Development," held in honor of the 300th anniversary of Turkmen poet and philosopher Makhtumkuli Fragi.
