As a result of reforms aimed at developing entrepreneurship in Turkmenistan, the role of the private sector in the national economy is increasing, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports. This was stated by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at a government meeting.
According to the information, an exhibition is planned for 17-19 March 2024 in Ashgabat, where more than 200 local companies will present their products and achievements on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET).
According to the country's socio-economic development programme, gross domestic product (GDP) growth is expected to remain at 6.3% this year and around 3,000 new jobs are expected to be created. The share of the private sector in the GDP structure (excluding the fuel and energy complex) is expected to reach 71.4%.
Experts told Daryo that the aim of the UIET is to create import-substituting and export-oriented industries. The Union has set up a joint-stock commercial bank, Rysgal, and opened representative offices in China, the United Arab Emirates and Austria.
