Passenger traffic at Tashkent’s airport is projected to reach 15mn by 2030, highlighting the urgent need for expanded transport infrastructure in Uzbekistan. In response, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with major new projects aimed at modernizing the country’s air and road systems.

Currently, Tashkent’s airport cannot meet future demand due to its limited capacity and urban location, which makes expansion unfeasible. To address this, the government is planning to build a new international airport in the Tashkent region. Proposals from foreign companies for private partnership models are under consideration, and officials briefed the president on all aspects of the planned development.
In the road sector, Uzbekistan has allocated substantial funds in recent years for construction and modernization. To ease vehicle traffic, new alternative roadways are being designed. A new version of the law on motorways has also been developed to create a more attractive environment for foreign investment.

One of the key initiatives involves constructing an alternative expressway between Tashkent and Samarkand. Interest in the project has been expressed by companies from several partner countries. Officials reported on the outcome of negotiations and the offers received.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of thoroughly planning these strategic infrastructure projects and moving swiftly to the implementation phase.
