The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, welcomed Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, the Minister of Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in a meeting aimed at enhancing energy and investment cooperation between the two nations, Akorda reported. A pivotal outcome of the discussions was the signing of an agreement between the Governments of Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia for the joint construction of a wind power plant.
Amidst deliberations on the prospects for energy collaboration, President Tokayev highlighted the unprecedented level of relations between Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia. He underscored the pivotal role of previous agreements with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud in bolstering bilateral cooperation across all sectors.
"We consider your visit as a symbol of friendship and close ties between the two states. I am still under a very positive impression from my visit to your great country. The visit was truly successful. We have reached agreements on many issues, primarily on cooperation in such a key area as energy. I am confident in the bright future of our relations. Our cooperation is strategic," President Tokayev remarked, extending his best wishes to His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman.
In response, Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman expressed gratitude for the warm reception and emphasized the historical depth of bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan.
"Saudi Arabia was among the first countries to extend a helping hand to Kazakhstan, which had just gained its independence," the minister noted, highlighting the enduring bonds between the two nations.
Mohammed Abunayyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi company ACWA Power, who participated in the meeting, elaborated on the prospects of a joint investment project. Abunayyan discussed plans for the construction of a 1 GW wind power plant in the Zhetysu region and outlined Saudi Arabia's keen interest in collaborating with Kazakhstan in the realm of green energy.
As a tangible outcome of the discussions, an agreement was signed between the Governments of Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia, signaling a milestone in their collaborative efforts towards the construction of the wind power plant. This agreement underscores the commitment of both nations to harnessing renewable energy sources and fostering mutually beneficial partnerships in the energy sector.
