Kazakhstan has introduced an unconventional strategy aimed at dissuading civil servants from engaging in illicit activities. Arman Tleukenov, the official representative of the anti-corruption agency, unveiled the initiative, as reported by Orda.kz on March 6.
As part of their preventive measures, the Anti-Corruption Service regularly organizes excursions for civil servants to pre-trial detention centers. During these excursions, participants are given a guided tour of investigative rooms, prison cells, and areas where detainees are allowed to walk.
"In addition to preventive excursions, we also invite labor collectives to attend court hearings as part of our preventive work. It's important to clarify that our intention is not to intimidate government officials," assured Tleukenov.
Highlighting the severity of penalties for corruption-related offenses, Tleukenov underscored the strict provisions outlined in the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan. Offenders convicted of bribery may face hefty fines, imprisonment for up to 15 years, confiscation of property, lifelong deprivation of certain rights, and loss of military ranks and state awards.
