Turkmenistan's Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmed Gurbanov met in Ashgabat with the Chinese Foreign Ministry's Special Envoy on Afghan Affairs Yue Xiaoyong.
The diplomats noted that "Turkmenistan and China share similar positions and views on many topical issues of global and regional politics," the country's Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
"The countries actively cooperate on issues of economic recovery and political stability in Afghanistan and conduct systematic dialogue on a permanent basis." The two sides discussed the agenda of the upcoming 5th meeting in the format of foreign ministers of Afghanistan's neighbouring countries, the statement said.
"Turkmenistan supports the development of dialogue with the new authorities of Afghanistan as the main factor contributing to the maintenance of stability in the country" and the involvement of this country in the implementation of major infrastructure projects in the region.
Afghanistan borders Pakistan (2,430km), Tajikistan (1,206km), Iran (936km), Turkmenistan (744km), Uzbekistan (137km) and China (76km).
Some of these countries are linked to Afghanistan by major regional projects, including the construction of a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to India. Experts told Daryo that the pipeline could help rebuild Afghanistan, improve its socio-economic structure and create new jobs.
