The Turkmendemirýollary Agency (Turkmen Railways) reports that it has invited a delegation from the French company Arterail to visit Ashgabat to discuss prospects for cooperation.
The proposal was made during a joint videoconference with the head of the company, Jérôme Garcia. "Opportunities for cooperation were presented within the framework of projects on the development of the country's railway infrastructure, as well as its modernisation and electrification."
According to the information, the Turkmen side will prepare a draft memorandum of understanding. Arterial is a service company that supports the acquisition, maintenance, overhaul, modification and modernisation of railway transport.
Experts told Daryo that Türkmendemirýollary is preparing a feasibility study on the modernisation of the sector with the participation of the Austrian engineering company BERNARD Gruppe ZT GmbH.
Ashgabat is consistently developing the international railway network. In 2014, a main line from Kazakhstan to Iran was opened through the country with a design capacity of 10mn tonnes of freight per year.
Two years later, the Atamurat (Turkmenistan) - Akina (Afghanistan) railway was built, which could potentially become part of the major Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan (TAT) project, with the prospect of access to China.
