The Turkmendenizderyayollary (Turkmen Sea and River Routes) Agency reports that discounts have been introduced for some products transiting through Turkmenbashi Port to the Farap/Takhiatash border point on the Turkmen-Uzbek border.
40% discount on sugar raw materials.
30% discount on private and leased wagons and 20% discount on stock wagons carrying other types of products (except aluminium, alumina and oil products transported in drums).
"The port of Turkmenbashi provides ample opportunities for the development of transit, import and export traffic in the railway sector, as well as for the loading and unloading of railway wagons from arriving ships."
Experts told Daryo that the two countries are exploring ways to create optimal conditions for freight transport through the Caspian port of Turkmenbashi. The route could be used as part of the transnational China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey-Europe route.
The two countries are also working together to implement the Ashgabat Agreement signed in 2011 to create the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman International Transport Corridor.
