The share of transit oil from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline in January 2024 was 430.8 thousand tonnes, which is 17.3% of the total volume pumped, reports the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.
The length of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey oil pipeline with a capacity of 50mn tonnes is 1,768 thousand km. Its shareholders are: BP; SOCAR; MOL; Equinor; TPAO; ENI; Itochu; ExxonMobil; INPEX, TotalEnergies and ONGC-Videsh.
Last year, the two Central Asian countries pumped 5.2mn tonnes of crude through BTC, up 2.7% from the previous year.
Experts told Daryo that the transport of Turkmen oil, delivered by tankers across the Caspian Sea, has intensified in 2021.
International trader Vitol, a partner of Turkmenistan's Napeco, has agreed with Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR to transport 1.0mn tonnes a year from Turkmenistan.
