The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is discussing with Turkmenistan the possibility of opening its national office in the country.
Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry reports that its head Rashid Meredov, discussed the issue with IRENA Deputy Director General Gauri Singh. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the World Government Summit (WGS 2024) in Dubai, UAE.
It was underlined that Turkmenistan cooperates with UN structures in the field of renewable energy development. The country joined IRENA in 2018.
Turkmenistan has significant potential for the development of alternative energy sources such as solar and wind power, so investing in diversification of sources can bring benefits, experts from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) noted earlier.
UAE-based Masdar, which signed a memorandum of understanding with Turkmenistan in 2021, is active in the local market in this area.
