Turkmenistan plans to increase its foreign trade turnover to $20.7bn this year, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
According to the country's socio-economic development programme, gross domestic product (GDP) growth is to be maintained at 6.3% this year and some 3,000 jobs are to be created through the establishment of new enterprises.
At the same time, it is planned to develop small and medium-sized enterprises and increase the share of the private sector in the GDP structure (excluding the fuel and energy complex) to 71.4%.
In addition, the country's economy will receive 38.5bn turkmen manats in investments from all sources in 2024.
At the government meeting, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov ordered to continue structural reforms and diversification of the national economy, increase its competitiveness and innovative development.
Other priorities for this year include maintaining a stable exchange rate for the national currency, providing banking services in line with current realities, and effectively using the funds attracted.
Turkmenistan exports natural gas mainly to China, but also to Russia and Uzbekistan. Ashgabat is an exporter of petroleum products, polymers, synthetic petrol and textiles. Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan import electricity.
