Turkmenistan, one of the key players in the Central Asian energy market, increased its natural gas production by 6.9% and its exports by 12.6% in January-December 2023, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports. During the period under review, 80.6bn cubic metres of gas were produced.
The results of the year were devoted to the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, where it was said that the growth of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the local economy during this period was 6.3%, and the production of goods in general increased by 7.8%.
The volume of investments aimed at the development of the national economy in 2023 compared to 2022 increased by 7.5%, which as a ratio to GDP was 18.3%.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasised the need for gradual industrial development of the Galkynysh gas field and the participation of foreign companies in the exploration and development of the Caspian shelf. The head of state also ordered to keep the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline in the centre of attention.
Turkmenistan exported gas to China, Russia, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan last year. The country is also an exporter of electricity, oil products, polymers, synthetic petrol and textile products.
