Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has ordered an increase in state purchase prices for wheat and cotton for the 2024 harvest, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
The cost of a tonne of wheat has risen by 2.5 times to 2,000 manats, a tonne of medium-fibre cotton by three times to 5,000 manats and a tonne of fine-fibre cotton by three and a half times to 6,700 manats.
The new prices are intended to stimulate the work of private agricultural producers and contribute to the implementation of the State Programme for Socio-Economic Development.
In recent years, the country's wheat harvest plan has been set at 1.4mn tonnes and cotton at 1,250,000 tonnes. Turkmenistan also produces rice and sugar beet.
