In 2023, lessors in Uzbekistan concluded over 7,500 new transactions, amounting to nearly UZS 4 trillion ($324.3mn). This represents a 26% increase compared to 2022, as reported at the meeting of the Leasing Association of Uzbekistan.
The total portfolio of leasing operations in the country reached UZS 7.4 trillion (nearly $600mn). By the end of 2023, there were approximately 150 companies in the republic’s leasing services market, with 40 actively engaged in leasing activities.
Agricultural machinery was the most frequently leased item, accounting for 36.6% of all transactions. Motor transport followed at 27.0%, and construction machinery and equipment at 17.5%.
Leading leasing companies
During the review period, Mikro Leasing (UZS 742.5bn or $60.2mn), Uzbek Leasing International A.O. (UZS 604.7bn), and Orient Finance (UZS 434.3bn or $49mn) emerged as the market leaders among leasing companies.
Tashkent had the largest share of new leasing transactions among the regions at 23.3%, with Samarkand and Namangan regions taking second and third places at 13% and 8.9%, respectively.
Insurance sector growth
In 2023, the total authorised capital of insurance companies exceeded UZS 2.3 trillion ($186.4mn), marking a 22.6% increase compared to the previous year. This was reported at a press conference at the National Agency for Advanced Projects (NAPP).
The volume of insurance companies’ investments in the economy surpassed UZS 6.2 trillion ($502.6mn), showing a growth of 29.4%.
The investment portfolio of insurance companies primarily consisted of highly liquid assets. Specifically, 65.6% of funds were placed on deposits of commercial banks and 22.1% in securities and shares.
