Uzbekistan travel agency Zukhro has made a number of proposals to expand cooperation with Turkmenistan during its presentation in capital Ashgabat. Turkmenportal reports that the event was attended by representatives of more 30 local travel agencies.
The presentation included a list of budget and exclusive tours in Uzbekistan and third countries - Georgia, Malaysia, Maldives, UAE, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and others. "Special attention was paid to pilgrimage tours and vouchers to countries with direct flights from Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan".
Company director Bazarbai Abdullayev said that since opening more than 12 years ago, the company has been "working closely with brothers from Turkmenistan". Zukhro Travel offers a full range of travel services. These include visa assistance, air tickets and hotel accommodation.
Nurana Gakhrymanova, an employee of local company Eminli Maslahat, said tourists from Turkmenistan would be interested in tours to Malaysia because there are direct flights from Ashgabat to Kuala Lumpur. "We will definitely help to further establish cooperation to provide the most convenient and comfortable travel conditions for tourists from Turkmenistan".
The Association of Tourist Transport of Uzbekistan reported earlier that an information centre for tourists has been opened at the Uzbek-Turkmen border crossing point "Shavat-Dashoguz". The two countries have agreed to establish a joint trade zone in the area. Some 300,000 ethnic Uzbeks live in Turkmenistan and more than 200,000 Turkmen live in Uzbekistan.
Turkmen citizens have been required to obtain entry visas to cross the border since 1999, after Ashgabat decided to withdraw from a visa-free agreement with the CIS.
According to the Uzbek Presidential Statistics Agency, Turkmen topped the list of commercial tourists visiting the country last year, with 46,500 out of a total of 70,400 foreigners. In January-July 2023, 39.6 thousand citizens of Turkmenistan visited Uzbekistan for tourism purposes (only 1.1 thousand in the previous year).
