The common border with Uzbekistan is Turkmenistan's longest, at around 1,700km. There are checkpoints between the two countries at Dashoguz-Shavat, Kunya-Urgench-Khojeyli, Gazojak-Druzhba and Farap-Alat.
Experts told Daryo that the two countries are studying ways to create optimal conditions for cargo traffic through the Caspian Sea port of Turkmenbashi. The route could be used as part of the transnational China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey-Europe corridor.
In 2022, the Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Iran-Turkey railway route with a total length of more than 4,500km was launched. This corridor has become Uzbekistan's shortest and most convenient way for export-import operations with Turkey.
The two countries are also working together to implement the Ashgabat Agreement signed in 2011 to create an international transport corridor Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman.
