The Turkmendenizderyayollary (Turkmen Sea and Riverways) agency reports that drills have been held in the national sector of the Caspian Sea to prevent natural and man-made emergencies.
The event was held on the basis of the plan of the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Emergency Situations. The aim is to improve the interaction of state bodies, emergency services and communications.
"As part of the scenario, a fire broke out on a ship carrying oil products in the Turkmen part of the Caspian Sea.The dispatcher at Turkmenbashi International Sea Port informs civil defence and emergency teams. A fire-fighting vessel is sent out to sea. At the same time, measures are being taken to collect the oil spilled into the sea.
According to the information, the readiness of the relevant services has been awarded a certificate of honour by the regional administration.
The Caspian Sea also washes the coasts of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Iran.
Experts told Daryo that a five-party agreement in the field of prevention and elimination of emergency situations in the Caspian Sea was signed in Astrakhan, Russian Federation, in September 2014. The initiative to develop the document came from Ashgabat.
