The Accident at Bishkek Heating Plant
On the night of February 2, an accident occurred at the Bishkek heating plant. Preliminary data suggest that one of the boilers exploded. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan does not rule out that the equipment of the Bishkek thermal power plant broke down due to sabotage. The night before the accident, popping noises were heard. As a result, almost 60,000 apartments were left without heating in Bishkek.
Following the accident, boiler equipment operators were injured and hospitalized. All of them had 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree burns on the face, neck, torso, and burns of the upper respiratory tract.
Measures Taken
In response to the accident, schools and kindergartens in the capital of Kyrgyzstan have been switched to online learning until February 6. An operational headquarters was created at the thermal power plant to eliminate the consequences of the emergency.
